Giancarlo’s ‘Procession’ involved many hands and moving parts to produce a unique publication that G had partially envisioned before the project even began. The work, taken over the 2023 Carnival season, set the stage for the performer and allowed the viewer to follow the act as it passed– the relation of the performer to the audience. He wanted to recreate the observed tradition through a publication that respected not only those involved, but to capture the essence within these special evenings.

With many different production elements and people’s specialties coming together, the performative creation of the book somehow mirrored its contents.
With our layout of images and text, conception and planning of the enclosed wire binding, screen printing the texture of a bass drum on the cover, then debossing the cover, having the photography printed offsite, and finally trimming, folding, binding, and gluing completed, all in-house—it was a perfect marriage of handwork from so many thoughtful people that made the publication come together in its own musical composition of sorts.
A truly rare opportunity to create a publication in such a classic way, with so many lovely people involved.
