Factotum
2016

Geometries of masonic fraternities and the dream-like checkered floors of Twin Peaks lead us into this finalized form for Jason Jones’ Factotum Barber, here in New Orleans.

Re-animating the barbershop of Bud Rip’s yesteryear, we played with a black and white private club-like nostalgia for Factotum’s identity. Jason wanted to keep a classic look to identify his space with an edge, without the look of something too mysterious or avant-garde for his clientele. The compass became the shears, and the all-seeing crying eyes above an all-caps bold ‘factotum,’ centered the elements within a seal-like radiance.

I had the pleasure to collaborate with friend and artist Lala Raščić on the gold-leaf signage for the window and door.

The remaining collateral consisted of straight-forward menus, identity and gift cards, which included tile patterns and line-work elements within the barbershop itself.
